“New PTLLS” is available from September 2011 from a limited number of Awarding Organisations and ITT providers. We are pleased to be able to offer this new enhanced qualification - Revised 2011 PTLLS 12-credit contact course

“Old PTLLS” will still be available for a limited time.

To date, the NTRL teacher/training team has provided PTLLS/CTLLS/DTLLS accredited courses to 560 participants to practitioners with national and regional learning providers. Our overall success rate of 82% includes programme leavers for all reasons, including employment, relocation and job changes. We believe our consistently high success rates are as a result of a focused developmental course with ongoing formative feedback and guidance being given to the participants on their assignment work during the training process.

We have ongoing contracted programmes progressing from PTLLS to CTLLS and DTLLS with several national providers. Their programmes of work have included: employment programmes, apprenticeships, Train to Gain, Entry to Employment, NEET and protection and re engagement of young people.

IfL Supporting Professionalism

With the transfer of LLUK’s activities to LSIS and IfL in March 2011, IfL have since published their 5-year strategic approach to supporting professionalism of their ATLS/QTLS members. The three strategic priorities over the next few years are listed as:

  1. Promoting benefits that are supporting professional excellence, through continuing professional development
  2. Increasing the status of teachers and trainers
  3. Giving members an influential voice on policy

NTRL’s clients are aware of the importance of these strategies which is why they have committed their teacher/training departments to continuing their PTLLS qualification through to the CTLLS and DTLLS qualifications in order for their teacher/training team to achieve professional formation to ATLS/QTLS status. For the qualifications to be accepted as part of the formation process of they should be achieved at an endorsed centre – NTRL is such a centre.

Building on the success of the Success for All mandate

The uptake of the PTLLS/CTLLS/DTLLS suite of qualifications by the FE and work-based learning sector was due to the previous government’s mandate, which was outlined in the Success for All document, it was intended by 2010 that all existing teachers without a recognised teaching qualification will become qualified.

There were two strands to the reforms, defined through two separate but complementary sets of Regulations:

  1. Revised teaching qualifications for new teachers and the introduction of licensed Practitioner status, which differentiate between Full and Associate teaching roles (QTLS = Qualified Teacher, Learning & Skills and ATLS = Associate Teacher, Learning & Skills)
  2. Remaining in good standing as a teaching professional, involving a mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement for all teachers.
