Professional Recognition for Teachers and Trainers
in the Wider FE Sector

Workshop Overview:

Introduction to General Professional Recognition Learning and Skills (England)

The General Professional Recognition Learning and Skills ( GPRLS) scheme is an alternative route for those who are required to comply with the new regulations. It is run by IfL.

The Professional Recognition scheme is designed for experienced and competent teachers and trainers in the FE/learning & skills sector who do not hold an accepted teaching qualification but can demonstrate that they meet the new overarching professional standards for teachers in the sector.

Applicants who successfully complete the scheme can begin the process of Professional Formation with the Institute for Learning (IfL) in the same way as if they had just completed their CTLLS or DTLLS qualifications.

Next Steps

The next stage of support of the GPRLS application process
Once all necessary staff within an organisation have a general understanding of the GPRLS scheme, we recommend that the practitioners, their mentors and referees attend the Application Appraisal Workshop which will provide them with the necessary detailed information to complete a good application.

This workshop aim is to enable attendees to construct an application that, following feedback and subject to the quality of evidence provided, will achieve at least the minimum standard of Professional Recognition as overseen and adjudicated by IfL.

Successful attainment of the Professional Recognition depends on the quality of final application and the evidence contained within that application. For professional reasons, the workshop cannot approve or score final applications, though it will endeavour to indicate specific weaknesses.

Application Appraisal Workshop:
The Application Appraisal Workshop will consist of peer-reviewed applications, tutor appraisal and action-planning in relation to the set criteria.  It will establish a time frame for submitting applications which includes accessing references and evidences such as observation feedback and learner evaluations.
