Aims and Objectives
This certificate is appropriate for you if your role involves using coaching as a way of encouraging individual learning.
Topics include:
- Evaluate and develop own practice
- Enable individual learning through coaching
- Support and advise individual learners
- Monitor and review progress with learners
Duration of Programme
There is a total of 21 guided learning hours for the NVQ Certificate of Coaching Learners in the Workplace. This consists of a one day Introductory Workshop and a further 2 days training on the following units:

Unit L15 - Support and advise individual learners
Unit L16 – Monitor and review progress with learners
Assignment Work
You will be expected to produce the following documentation to reinforce the learning explored by the units:
Unit G3 - Evaluate and develop own practice
Evaluate and develop own practice to show competence in this unit, you will be expected to produce one record identifying how you evaluate your own practice and identify your own development needs AND a personal action plan showing how you review and develop yourself.
Unit L12 – Enable individual learning through coaching
Records for two individual learners which identifies the support you give through coaching AND one record of an observation for a coaching session with an individual learner by an Assessor or Witness.
Unit L15 – Support and advise individual learners
One record of how you give individual learners guidance to help them plan their learning AND one record of an observation by an Assessor or Witness. One record of assessor questioning of how you considered ILT
Unit L16 - Monitor and review progress with learners
A record of an observation by an Assessor or a Witness AND a record of how you monitored and reviewed progress with a) individual and b) a group.
NVQ Assessment
We would expect the assessor to spend ½ day over each unit that a participant finishes. This time might include a visit to observe work, or to complete a professional discussion, or it might be about assessing the unit remotely and reviewing the evidence produced. It would also include supporting the participants to develop realistic action plans for themselves and by responding to their questions. Participants must ensure they have met all the necessary evidence requirements, and knowledge and understanding of subject. This would all be part of the process to attain the NVQ Certificate in Coaching Learners in the Workplace.

The first day of the Introduction to NVQ Certificate in Coaching Learners in the Workplace will cover:
- Delegate paperwork (incorporating, Health & Safety information, Contact Details, Personal Distance travelled)
- Overview of NVQ process for evidence gathering
Review of current understanding and knowledge of delegates knowledge of Coaching techniques

Performance Criteria
You must be able to show that you have met the following criteria:
- Evaluate own practice against set targets and goals.
- Use a range of valid and reliable evidence to assess own work which an assessment of the effects of your own behaviour and values on others.
- Involve others in the interpretation of evidence.
- Use evidence to reflect on own practice and professional issues.
- Accept criticism in a positive manner and assess its validity and importance.
- Revise goals and targets in the light of reviewing evidence of performance.

Performance Criteria
You must be able to show that you have met the following criteria:
- Set and prioritise clear and realistic goals and targets for own development.
- Base goals and targets on the accurate assessment of all relevant information relating to own work and achievement, including developments in professional practice and related areas.
- Devise a personal action plan and review it regularly.
- Try out developments in own practice in a way which does not cause problems for others.
- Evaluate developments in own practice and ensure continued self-development.

Coach individual learners
Performance Criteria
You must be able to show that you have met the following criteria:
- Identify individual needs and learning styles.
- Choose a style of coaching which meets the learning objectives of the organisation.
- Coach in a manner and at a speed which is appropriate to learners.
- Analyse the skills needed and the order they need to be learned in.
- Regularly check that learners are making progress towards learning outcomes.
- Give learners positive feedback on the learning process.
- Alter coaching in the light of learners’ progress and feedback.
- Identify anything that prevents learning and review this with learners.

Assist individual learners to apply their learning
Performance Criteria
You must be able to show that you have met the following criteria:
- Give learners the opportunities to practise skills, apply their knowledge and get experience in a structured way.
- Consider using technology-based support for learners, including e-support.
- Identify opportunities for learners to achieve agreed learning objectives and give them positive feedback on their progress.
- Identify opportunities to use different learning opportunities and agree action with learners.
- Give learners clear and accurate information on the resources available to help them apply their learning.
- Give learners positive feedback on the learning experience and the outcomes achieved.
- Identify anything that prevents learning and review this with learners.
- Explain to learners the ongoing support that is available to them.

Performance Criteria
You must be able to show that you have met the following criteria:
- Identify the types of guidance learners are likely to need when they are planning their learning.
- Agree with learners the sort of guidance they want.
- Refer learners to other sources of guidance if they need it.
- Take account of each learner’s personal circumstances, beliefs, capabilities, aspirations and learning situation.
- Giving learners advice and guidance on learning opportunities and methods, qualification routes and progression.
- Give guidance that is appropriate to the learner.
- Ensure you give advice in a way which encourages the learner to develop and make their own decisions.
- Ensure you give unbiased information and guidance which helps learners to make informed decisions.
Element L15.2
Advise and support individual learners in managing their own learning
Performance Criteria
You must be able to show that you have met the following criteria:
- Identify and agree learners’ needs for advice and support.
- Identify which areas learners need to be responsible for in order to achieve their learning objectives.
- Help learners identify the competencies and resources they will need to manage their own learning.
- Discuss with learners an appropriate use of technology-based methods to support their learning.
- Give learners guidance on how to develop their ability to manage their own learning.
- Ensure you give learners unbiased information and advice.
- Explain to learners the ongoing support that is available to them.
- Identify and deal with any difficulties learners have in managing their learning and give them guidance on how to overcome the difficulties.

Performance Criteria
You must be able to show that you have met the following criteria:
- Base your reviews of progress on the views of learners and your assessment of their progress to date.
- Check that the information you use in the review with learners is accurate and unbiased.
- Encourage learners to express their views on their own progress.
- Match information to learning objective to see what learners have achieved.
- Give learners positive feedback.
- Identify new learning needs and objectives.
- Identify and agree any changes to the learning programme as a result of the review.
- Record, pass on and use the results of the review.
