Contact Course Overview

The 2011 Revised PTLLS edition has been upgraded from 6 credits to 12 credits on the QCF framework. The Award " Preparing to Teach/Train in the Lifelong Learning Sector" – Level 3 and Level 4 - has been developed to meet the needs of those who are required to gain an introductory Teach/Training qualification.  If you have achieved already attained your Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment qualifications, please refer to the Accredited Prior Learning – Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment, section further down  

This award provides:

  • A nationally recognised award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector qualification
  • Progression onto the CTLLS and DTLLS qualifications
Workshop Content
  • Session 1 – Induction Day leading onto roles, responsibilities and relationships in lifelong learning
  • Session 2 - Understanding inclusive learning and teaching in the lifelong learning sector
  • Session 3 - Using inclusive learning and teaching in the lifelong learning sector
  • Session 4 – Micro-teach Day
  • Session 5 - Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

The NTRL tutors have substantial practical experience working in the fields of Education, Training and Development. 

They are certified to PGCE or equivalent for FE Sector, and are Assessors, Verifiers or Moderators for various Awarding Organisations in: Skills for Life, PTLLS, CTLLS & DTLLS, and relevant Functional Skills.

Accredited Prior Learning – Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

The updated Assessor qualifications have been available since September 2010. If you have certificated proof that you have achieved Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment, you will be able to use the 3 QCF credits gained in attaining this qualification as recognised accredited prior learning and you will not need to repeat this qualification. Please note that we will require a scanned version of your Unit 1 certificate to forward to the Awarding Organisation as proof.

Who is the workshop designed for?

The award is aimed at any pre-service or in-service candidate who needs an initial award for their role as a teacher, trainer or tutor within an FE college, Adult and Community Learning Centre or Training Provider and those delivering work-based training such as within voluntary, community, private and public organisations.

 

Learning Objectives
  • understand the roles and responsibilities in relation to teaching
  • understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches within the candidate’s specialist area
  • plan, deliver and evaluate a micro-teaching session
  • observe and evaluate micro-teaching sessions
  • understand the use of assessment methods and record keeping.

 

What is required to achieve this qualification?

The mandatory assignment of 2500 words required by the awarding organisation to complete this qualification is broken down by NTRL into a series of mini-theoretical and practical assignments, together with successful observation in the Micro-teaching session.  The assignment work is provided in the PTLLS courseware folder and is designed to test the participants’ knowledge and understanding of the whole qualification.

 

Workshop Style

PTLLS training programme are highly participative with a blend of presentation, group exercises and debate.  A comprehensive courseware folder is provided including handouts, checklists, sample documents and reference lists for internet pages that offer further reading and research.

Numbers

Delegate numbers are limited to 15 per workshop.

This enables interaction and involvement with those participants present.

 

Certification

Certification will be conferred on participants by the Awarding Organisation, Ascentis or CIPD

 

 

Certification

This event will be run as an internal event. It would normally be hosted within your organisation for a group of your staff and specifically aligned to your staff development needs. 

 

The difference between PTLLS Level 3 and Level 4

The difference between achieving a Level 3 PTLLS accreditation and Level 4 PTLLS accreditation is listed below:

Generic Criteria for PTLLS Level 3 and Level 4

All participants’ evidence needs to demonstrate that they have met the following generic criteria for each unit as well as covering the appropriate assessment criteria within the unit:

  • Accurate use of grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Clear expression of ideas and arguments
  • Use of reading and research through the inclusion of appropriate references in written text
  • Accurate use of numerical calculations and interpretation of data
  • Use of information and communication technology
  • Commitment to working within a professional value base

Additionally Level 4 candidates will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Use of the Harvard system of bibliographical referencing
  • Analysis of and reflection on concepts and evidence, to support a particular viewpoint

Different routes to the PTLLS Award

To ensure that your organisation complies with the new regulations, the NTRL Qualifications division are pleased to offer various different ways of obtaining the PTLLS Award, either as a Contact or Distance Learning course.

We offer the PTLLS Award Contact course as a:

  • 5-day intensive course
  • A 3-day plus 2 day intensive course
  • 5 days of training over a 5 week period
  • 5 days of training over a 10 week period
  • 5 days spread over a 5 month period

Alternatively, we offer the PTLLS Distance Learning course as a:

  • 3-day intensive course
  • A 1-day introduction plus 2-day intensive course
  • 3 days of training over a 3 week period
  • 3 days of training over a 6 week period
  • 3 days spread over a 3 month period

Delivery dates can be arranged to entirely suit the client organisation and teacher/trainers diaries and timetables for the PTLLS Distance Learning or PTLLS Contact Course.

 

Next Steps

The next stage of the progression route to ATLS/QTLS status
Participants carry forward the 6 credits achieved through the PTLLS Award into both CTLLS and DTLLS, as it forms a mandatory introductory unit for both qualifications. 

To achieve ATLS status, participants must achieve the CTLLS qualification and undergo Professional Formation (see http://www.ifl.ac.uk/qtls-atls for further information).  To achieve QTLS status, must achieve the DTLLS qualification and undergo Professional Formation (see http://www.ifl.ac.uk/qtls-atls for further information.
