Introduction to the Big Society and Funding to Support it

Overview

This workshop will explore the main principles of the Big Society & the impact of them on the funding environment. Delegates will look at how existing, new and potential funding streams will be affected by the Big Society initiative. You will understand what the policies, drivers, implications and underlying aims are of this initiative paired with the new policies of the Coalition Government.

It will also look at the key issues of the Big Society initiative and the implications for the public, voluntary and private sectors, and look at how new projects can be developed and funded through the Big Society. Participants will also analyse the relationship between partnership development, social enterprise and the Big Society and answer the key question:

How can your organisation take advantage of the new opportunities created by this initiative?

The course includes, potential funding streams, existing funding streams that can support the initiative, case studies, resources for development and sources of further information. Delegates will also be given a broad range of supporting documentation and information on a memory stick about effective partnership development and be able to take part in group exercises.

The Workshop will cover:

  • Main policy drivers and implications of the ‘Big Society’
  • An analysis of Coalition Government deficit reduction policies and their implications for delegates and their organisations
  • Implications for other funding mechanisms such as local and central government funding
  • Existing and proposed funding streams for the Big Society
  • Alternative funding streams, including Charitable Trusts, Lottery and European
  • Existing Funding streams that will still be accessible
  • Partnership development and the Big Society
  • Social Enterprise and the Big Society
  • Advantages of the Big Society for non profit making organisations
  • Case studies
  • Group exercises & report back
  • Identification of growth areas in partnership development
