New Organisational Structures for Non Profit Making Organisations - 1 Day Course

Overview

This Work Shop will inform delegates on a range of organisational structures that can be developed or utilised for non-profit making organisations or partnerships. With the advent of public spending cuts, new funding models and the Big Society and Localism agenda; many organisations are seeking to develop new or additional forms of organisational structure, to access new funding or develop projects.

These structures can be developed by new or existing organisations. These structures can be used to access new funding opportunities or to manage or ‘hive off’ existing projects. Organisations such as schools, FE colleges, community groups and housing associations are seeking to adapt and develop such new structures to help them develop ‘Big Society’ projects or to develop new partnership vehicles for programme like the Work Programme.

The workshop gives information on organisational structures including:

  • Company Limited by Guarantee
  • Community Interest Company
  • Registered Charity
  • Co-operatives
  • Partnership structures
  • Special Purpose Vehicles
  • Overview of the others

We also look at the opportunities presented by the Big Society, Localism & Decentralisation and how these can be utilised with the appropriate organisational structures.

The course includes; case studies, resources for development and sources of further information. Delegates also be given a broad range of supporting documentation and information in memory stick form and will be provided with information regarding website and web based resources.

  • Implications of government policy on organisational structures
  • Main policy drivers and implications of the ‘Big Society’ and localism relating to certain organisational structures
  • Partnerships, consortia, PTA’s, Friends of Schools Groups, charities and other non- profit making structures
  • A review of various types of organisational/ legal structures
  • Social Enterprise and related structures
  • How will proposed outcome related funding affect delivery models
  • Potential partnership, commissioning/procurement issues and opportunities
  • Case studies
  • Group exercises & report back
  • Identification of growth areas in partnership development
  • Resources and funding for Big Society project development

Facilitator

The Facilitator is a London based trainer and consultant with over 20 years experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors. He is an approved consultant for the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and previously a visiting lecturer/ research associate at the University of Central Lancashire in Community Regeneration and Health, in the Health & Ethnicity Unit.

He is a graduate and qualified trainer, who has developed & delivered fundraising training programmes for many community and non-profit making organisations & regularly writes and researches funding proposal for community groups, local authorities, social enterprises and universities & colleges. He has also undertaken consultancy work with several housing associations and works as an Independent Tenant Adviser on fundraising to tenants & residents groups in London.

Currently working with a range of third sector organisations on various public Funding programmes to research funding sources and other development opportunities. He has significant experience of working on and managing EU funding programmes, especially ESF and is also an associate member of both the Institute of Fundraising & the Institute of Economic Development.
