Identifying & Accessing Funding for Volunteer Projects (WS5620)

Tuesday, 10th July 2012, Leeds City Centre

167

Overview

Volunteering is becoming increasingly important in the management of community projects and the delivery of public services. Current government policy supports the development of volunteer initiatives at local and neighbourhood level. This Workshop will examine and review funding for volunteer projects and how it can be identified and accessed. The advent of the Big Society and the growing emphasis on volunteer support for community programmes has increased the demand for funding volunteer projects.

This workshop will review the current policy drivers from central and local government relating to volunteer development programmes. We look at the Work Programme and other public funding projects, European Programmes, The Lottery and Charitable Trust Funding and the opportunities that volunteering initiatives and projects can take advantage of. We also examine other new initiatives such as Time Banks, partnership development and Social Enterprise which are becoming increasingly popular and rely on significant volunteer input.  With the current economic situation, the workshop explores the funding opportunities available and assesses the impact of the Big Society and other initiatives such as the Olympics and the Paralympics, Skills Based Volunteering and Mentoring projects.

The workshop includes, potential funding streams, existing funding streams that can support the initiative, case studies, resources for development and sources of further information.  Delegates will also be given a broad range of supporting documentation and information on a memory stick about effective partnership development and be able to take part in group exercises.
