Working with & Applying to Trust & Foundations (1895)

Wednesday, 6th August 2008,

Working with & Applying to Trusts and Foundations workshop

Overview

There are almost 9,000 charitable Trusts & Foundations in the UK. Last year alone they gave almost £3bn, including £273m of support to educational projects.  Trusts & Foundations have a broad focus, covering not just education, but also, health, social care, arts, the environment and international work.

This workshop will familiarise delegates with the major Trusts & Foundations, the activities they like to support and the levels of grant that they typically give.  Through a combination of presentations, group discussions and exercises, delegates will leave with a better knowledge of the key funders and be better placed to prepare a successful application.

Content & Coverage

This workshop will provide delegates with an insight into the enormous potential of this area of funding, including: how to identify appropriate trusts/foundations; how to structure a proposal and letter of application; which trusts/foundations give the most money; and which trusts/foundations have the best ratio of applications received to grants awarded.

Delegates will explore the range of different trusts and foundations, looking in detail at some of the largest individual funders, as well as an overview of their priorities and guiding aims.  The Workshop will introduce delegates to some of the essential search tools to use when identifying funders and how to access key information in their annual reports.

The workshop will help prepare delegates considering applying to charitable trusts and foundations for the first time.  The event will cover: a brief history of grantmaking by trusts and foundations; filtering information and approaching relevant funders; writing an application versus structuring a proposal; preparing a presentation to a funding panel; and sources of further help and support.

Using his experience as a bid writer, assessor and former project manager, the facilitator will offer important tips on designing your project, identifying the correct funders, and preparing the best applications.  Delegates will learn through a combination of formal presentations, informal discussions and group exercises designed to embed the key issues.

The workshop will cover:
