Overview

There are almost 9,000 different UK Trusts & Foundations giving over £2bn each year to community projects and charitable causes.  With traditional sources of funding (e.g. ESF) flowing towards Central & Eastern Europe, this one-day WorkShop will help your organisation prepare to exploit a significant area of new funding.

Content

The aim of this WorkShop is to familiarise organisations with the major Trusts & Foundations and the types of activity they seek to support.  Through a combination of presentations, group discussions and exercises, delegates will leave with a better knowledge of the key funders, as well as how to prepare a letter of application or formal proposal.  Using his experience as a bid writer and assessor, the facilitator will offer important tips on how to make your application stand out from the crowd.

The WorkShop will cover:

  • The history of grantmaking by Trusts & Foundations
  • Which funders offer the highest chances of success

Facilitator

Craig Browne

Craig has almost 10 years experience in the field of grant funding including conducting funding searches, bid writing and project evaluation, as well as record keeping and project management.

Craig also regularly works as an assessor for the European Commission in Brussels.  To date he has been invited as a panellist for the Socrates Grundtvig (Adult Education), Minerva (ICT Learning) and Joint Action programmes, both as an assessor of applications and interim & final reports.  In addition he currently acts as an evaluator for two transnational projects, one co-ordinated by a Spanish NGO, the other by a rural development agency in Romania.  As a result of these activities, Craig now has contacts in most countries of Central & Eastern Europe.

Previously, Craig was employed as External Funding Manager at Stockport College of Further & Higher Education.  In this role he developed the college’s bidding activity from a position of one current project in 2000, to 20 live projects four years later and an annual income stream of £500,000 (from £35,000).  During this time, he secured grants from the European Social Fund, National Lottery, Learning & Skills Council, European Commission and the Basic Skills Agency.  He was also regularly invited to sit as a panellist by the Government Office North West and latterly by the Learning & Skills Council Greater Manchester.

Recently, Craig has also become an independent consultant to ECOTEC, the UK National Agency for the Leonardo da Vinci programme, a role which again will involve assessing funding applications for vocational education and training projects.
