The Association of Learning Providers East (ALP East) is the regional voice for the independent work based learning training providers delivering 14-19 provision, Apprenticeships, adult work-based learning and Train to Gain. It works closely with government agencies and other regional partners to help deliver on the Skills Agenda.

Responding to the need to ‘deliver world class skills in a demand led system’, and the requirement to keep pace with the changes taking place in the learning and skills arena, ALP East is hosting its first major conference for all work based learning providers operating in the Eastern region. The conference will focus on the implications and impact on providers in the region.

The new ALP East Regional website will also be launched at this Conference.

Workshops

A series of workshops are currently being planned in conjunction with a number of key stakeholder organisations, e.g. Lifelong Learning UK, JISC Regional Support Centre for e-learning and the regional LSC.  The conference workshops will provide input from regional partner organisations and will include:

Workshop A: Framework for Excellence - the WBL Perspective
Gary Howard, General Manager, EAGIT

The LSC's quality initiative, Framework for Excellence Pilot has recently been completed and is now being evaluated.  2 eastern region WBL Providers involved in the Pilot, EAGIT Ltd and the British Racing School will facilitate this workshop to share their experiences and discuss the next steps in the process.

Workshop B: Getting to Grips with Diplomas
Mike Hodkinson, 14-19 Adviser, Norfolk Childrens Services, Norfolk County Council
As the new Diploma Level Qualifications will be delivered from September 2008 and the 14-19 reform programme continues, this workshop will provide an insight to the development of the diplomas and the lead up to delivery.

Workshop C: Training Quality Standard
Christopher Lambert, Vice-Principal (College Improvement), City College Norwich
Sarah Taylor, New Business Funding Co-ordinator, City College Norwich
The new Training Quality Standard is supporting the move towards a demand led agenda.  Norwich City College  will share their experiences on implementing the Standard and the resulting impact on the customer journey and  the 'Business Bottom Line'.  

Workshop D: e-Learning Demystified
Lynn Whitmore, e-Learning Advisor Work Based Learning, JISC Regional Support Centre
An introductory workshop providing a 'jargon' free  insight into how all training providers can use the latest IT developments to support your organisation, staff and  Learners.

Workshop E: Self Regulation
Paul Eeles, National Development Manager, Association of Learning Providers
The journey towards Self Regulation has begun - this workshop will provide the latest information on the process as it is developing and will be facilitated by Paul Eels, ALP National Development Manager and member of the Self Regulation Project Team.

Workshop F: ESF 16-19 NEET Project – ‘Youth East’
Nichola Dean, Project Funding Manager & Heather Freeman, Work Based Learning Manager, Hertfordshire Regional College
Hertford Regional College were successful in a recent tender to the LSC for an ESF funded project for 16-19 NEET provision covering the Eastern Region (excluding Bedfordshire and Luton).  Over 3 years the project needs to deliver 3006 starts with an 80% achievement and 50% progression.  This workshop will provide an overview of the project aims and objectives. It is designed for those organisations who are already agreed lead and sub partners in this project.
