Exhibitor Profile - Brathay Trust

Brathay Trust

Brathay Trust helps children and young people to make a positive contribution to society and our personal development programmes ensure that they fulfil their potential. We raise aspirations, develop positive attitudes and raise self-confidence helping those we work with to increase their social skills. We support those, under 25, who have suffered abuse and neglect and are at most risk of dropping out of mainstream society.

We work with partner organisations such as schools, youth organisations, local authorities, police and other agencies, frequently as part of longer-term sustainable programmes, to support young people who have been socially excluded or who are outside employment, education and training.

Those who benefit from our skills and expertise include:

  • young people not in education, employment or training
  • homeless young people
  • young offenders and those at risk of offending
  • young carers
  • deaf young people
  • looked after young people (in care)
  • multi-faith and multi-race groups.

Our vision is of a society where all children and young people have access to formal and informal education. The outcomes achieved through our programmes include:

  • re-engagement with education
  • raised aspirations
  • having a voice within communities and within Brathay
  • developing skills as peer mentorsand young leaders in school/other settings
  • avoidance or reduction in criminal activity, including violence and other anti-social behaviour.
