A study of some of the radical, imaginative and effective technology &
innovation-based developments in Teaching, Training & Learning

Over recent years the development of innovative and technology-based teaching, training and learning has continued to grow at a phenomenal pace.

Recent technologies adopted by the education sector include enrolment by smart phone to Universities offering degree courses by distance-learning. We are moving from face-to-face contact in the classroom to learners who never meet their tutor and study with their peers in virtual learning environments.

This one-day conference is designed to bring together policy makers, practitioners, innovators, researchers and technology developers to address current challenges and advances in the field.

The ultimate goal of the conference is to support the educational community in effective and innovative Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) that succeeds in improving efficiencies, practice, performance and the quality of the learning experiences and educational attainment.

The conference will be chaired by Agnes Kukulska-Hulme, Professor of Learning Technology and Communication in the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University. Her expertise encompasses mobile learning, distance education, online education and language learning.

The conference is planned as a blended approach with input from some of the respected leading thinkers in their field.  It will explore enhancing teaching and learning through the use of technology in terms of policy, practice and research. The blend will be provided through keynote speeches, practical workshop sessions, a snapshot presentation panel session and exhibitors.

Sessions include research findings, demonstrations, latest educational solutions, case studies, best practice, practical advice, new processes and information on emerging technologies and how to apply it from several perspectives to enhance teaching, training and learning. It is important when evaluating the possibilities in this area that we don’t lose sight of changes to pedagogy and staff skills as well as the emphasis on shiny new hardware and systems.

The scope of the conference includes most of, but is not limited to, the following topics as they relate to Learning and Technology:

  •   E-learning
  •   Virtual learning environments (VLEs)
  •   Use of social media and e-safety
  •   Using cloud computing in the classroom
  •   Assessment - maintaining quality and rigour in the new world
  •   Assistive technology and learning disabilities
  •   Mobile applications – app based programmes
  •   Game-based learning
  •   Gesture based computing/Touch-screen Technology
  •   The impact of 4G technology
  •   3-D printing and its implications for generating a manufacturing focus
  •   Developments in on-line assessment

The conference is a must for anyone involved in technology-supported teaching, training and learning and also for those who want to find out more about this ever-evolving field.

Attendance at this conference will provide an excellent opportunity to network with experts in the field and other professionals.
