Speakers Profile

The focus of Norman’s career to date has been on learning/training, leadership and organisational development.  This has mostly been through senior management and consultant roles based within a variety of organisations in the UK and US, together with a French multi national. 

Norman began his career by serving an apprenticeship as a TV engineer.  After then running his own TV and electronics sales and service business Norman returned to full time education to complete the BA (Hons) Degree in Organisation Studies. Upon graduating, he lectured on the same programme before relocating to the US.  Initially, Norman worked in a small engineering company.  He then moved into the US retail sector, eventually managing training in a food manufacturer and retail chain.

Since returning to the UK in 1990, Norman has held individual and organisational development roles at senior management level in private and public sector organisations.  To supplement this, he has studied part time for the MSc in Total Quality Management, gained Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development status, and become involved in various areas and initiatives related to helping individuals and organisations improve and get the best from themselves. 

Norman currently holds a position within The National Skills Academy for Manufacturing (The Academy), which is part of Semta – the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies.  The thrust of his role is around the development of learning & development of products and services.
