Workshops

Delegates are invited to choose form a series of workshops to be run during the conference. You may choose to attend one morning workshop and one afternoon workshop.

Workshop 1:
Importance of Data Quality
Ellie Frazier, Data Quality & Assurance Manager - The Data Service

For several months the information authority and Data Service have been working together on a programme to improve data quality – working with providers and partners to see where there are issues and how these can be addressed at each stage of the data collection cycle.

Outcomes and resources include: clearer quality standards, improved provider guidance, pre-return self-assessment, post-return credibility checks, peer support online (via feconnect) and e-learning for providers. This session will update delegates on the data quality programme and provide the opportunity to raise questions.

Workshop 2:
Latest ILR changes – 2010 / 11
Lisa Macdougall, Data Specification Manager - the information authority

Each year the information authority reviews the individualised learner record (ILR) to ensure that it is still ‘fit for purpose’ – working with data users and providers to delete unused fields, add new ones where needed, and clarify the use of existing fields.

This session will update delegates on the ILR changes that have been agreed for 2010/11 and provide the opportunity to raise questions with ILR experts from the information authority.

Workshop 3:
Framework for Excellence
Tim Smith, Framework for Excellence - Learning and Skills Council

The outputs from the Framework for Excellence will provide useful information for providers to use in their self-assessment and quality improvement processes.  This session will provide more information about what will be available to providers in 2010 and how they will be able to access and use the FfE outputs.  Information on what will also be available to learners and other stakeholders will also be shared with delegates.

Workshop 4:
Using data and online tools to develop your workforce
Tynan Rodger, Project Manager - Lifelong Learning UK

LLUK will discuss and demonstrate a new state of the art online reporting tool which will allow providers to:

 - Create bespoke analyses of your workforce data
 - Compare data at national/regional levels
 - Benchmark your data against sector norms
 - Save reports for distribution within your management team
 - Produce year-on-year trend analyses

Workshop 5:
Moving to paperless learner records
Robert Hezel, Finance Director - League Football Education

The LSC are currently developing a framework for the acceptable use of electronic records by providers. Electronic records include electronic methods for the verification of learner identity and for the collection and storage of learner data.

External consultants have been commissioned to provide expert advice and develop the framework in relation to learner verification, such as electronic signatures, biometric information, use of other identifiers etc.

A range of providers have signed up to pilot the framework and this session will update delegates on the process of moving to paperless learner records from a provider’s point of view.
